Must be in the Horror/Dark Fantasy/Dark Sci-Fi/Magic Realism veins (straight Sci-Fi, Weird, Weird Erotica, Thriller are also acceptable). NO: Fan Fiction, Romance, Sword & Sorcery. Profanity that fits the context is OK. Challenge us with interesting, intelligent, mature content.

Improperly formatted manuscripts will be immediately rejected. E-submissions are mandatory.

*Looking for relevant nonfiction articles and reviews by new & established writers on a variety of topics, from politics, science, criticism, and personality profiles, to personal essays/memoirs and grand overviews. Query first, please. If permission is granted to send in an article or review, include REVIEW SUBMISSION or ARTICLE/INTERVIEW SUBMISSION in the Subject; expect to be edited. Except for reviews (which are compensated for in exposure and/or one (1) copy of the E-Edition digest), Payment (SEE BELOW); submission guidelines are the same as FICTION, except as noted for Interviews and Reviews. Profanity that fits the context is OK.

*Also seeking Interviews with established & newer personalities in the Horror/Dark Fantasy/S-F and related fields (writers, filmmakers, artists, actors, musicians). Payment for interviews is in one (1) E-Edition copy only, unless negotiated in advance. Query first. If permission is granted to send in an interview, include INTERVIEW SUBMISSION in the Subject; expect to be edited. Profanity that fits the context is OK.

++ARTWORK - MULTIMEDIA:

*Looking for original art (drawings, paintings, photos, collages, digital art are all OK) with a Sci-Fi and/or Dark Fantasy edge, B&W or Color: PLEASE, NO CLICHE HORROR ELEMENTS. Sexy images/nudity are acceptable if done tastefully. Expect to be edited/altered. SEE BELOW for Payment.

*We are also seeking quality MULTIMEDIA Submissions: short films, music videos, interview snippets, audio, convention panels, trailers and so on. It is best to send these as a zipped/compressed file OR a LINK in certain cases (YouTube, Vimeo, and SoundCloud). Local formats are restricted to MP3, WAV, MOV, WMV, and Flash. Lengths may vary, but should be longer than two minutes and shorter than 15 minutes as a general rule. Decent audio/image quality is appreciated (HD preferred). Should be interesting, non-obscene content: no excessive gore, no pornography (though mild nudity is OK), no racial/sexual/sexual orientation/religious/regional bigotry/animal cruelty/child abuse/rape or hatred. Profanity that fits the context is OK. Challenge us with interesting, intelligent and mature content. No Payment: SEE BELOW for details.

Final format for artwork publication: 300 DPI minimum, TIFF or PNG format. B&W illustrations should be formatted for Grayscale. Include ART SUBMISSION in the Subject line and please include your address/e-mail in the body of your cover letter. Challenge us with interesting, intelligent and mature content.

*FICTION: Five cents ($.05) a word and one (1) E-Edition copy of the digest. Payment within 60 days of physical publication. Print Rights revert to Author upon physical print publication, though we may reserve the right to use the story or nonfiction piece in a "Best Of" collection at a later date; Electronic Rights are reserved for a longer term. No simultaneous submissions (to other publications). No multiple submissions (please wait to send another story until your current one has received a response). We prefer to pay via PayPal. We ONLY PAY for items that are in the printed digest (unless noted otherwise), but are pleased to keep items excerpted for the website indefinitely.

*Poetry: Pays $.30 per line (if printed in the PRINT magazine).

*NONFICTION (Reviews are exempt, and are not paid; Interviews are not generally paid for, unless negotiated in advance): Flat payment per piece. Up to 2000 words: $100. 2000-4500 words: $125. Over 4500 words: $225.

+Written SUBMISSION UPDATE -- Due to the high volume of good submissions, we now have an alternative to rejecting a story, as follows: Effective immediately, if the story is CONDITIONALLY ACCEPTED, we will offer to use the complete piece in the fiction (or nonfiction) section of the NAMELESS website at a reduced rate of $.02/word (to be displayed indefinitely, and payable within three weeks of online publication; we ask for exclusive online/print Rights for four months if you agree); we also reserve the right  to keep it in contention for our future book series, THE BEST OF NAMELESS.

*ARTWORK: Payment is $30 (quarter page), $45 (half page) each for small interior art plus one (1) E-Edition copy, $70 (full page) plus one (1) E-Edition copy, and $150 plus one (1) E-Edition copy for a cover piece. Payment within 60 days of physical publication. Simultaneous submissions OK - let us know immediately if an image under consideration is accepted by another publication, however. ++MISCELLANEOUS...

A NOTE ABOUT SUBMISSIONS: Please include your e-mail and address on the story AND the body of the cover letter; in a continuing effort to be as Green as possible, we only accept electronic submissions unless we specifically ask for something or you have queried first (such as for a film or book you would like us to review).

REVIEW CONSIDERATION: We make no promises or guarantees that we will review anything that is submitted.

FORMATTING GUIDELINES: Improperly formatted manuscripts will be immediately rejected. All stories, interviews, reviews, and so on need to be written in Times New Roman or Courier 12-point font, double-spaced, 1" margins all around, contact info and word count on the front page at the top, every page after the title page should have author's last name, story title and page number. Submissions with improper formatting will go unread and be immediately rejected, no exceptions.

NOTE: If you would like to be considered as a REVIEWER, please visit the [NameL3ss] Facebook page (link below), and leave a PRIVATE MESSAGE. Alternatively, the [NameL3ss] website (link below) has a Contact Form for inquiries.

First: There is NO PAYMENT for reviews.

We will run reviews on the NAMELESS website; the best of them will be printed twice yearly in the PRINT version of the magazine.

Second: What we are interested in seeing.

We are open to reviews of books, DVDs, CDs (music), comics/graphic novels, and current films (in theatres). We are open to reviewers bringing new things to our attention, and we will also send works out to be reviewed. We are interested in not only mainstream, large-scale efforts, but independent, and academic works as well.

Third: Categories for consideration.

We want to see critical (no softball) reviews of: fiction (including re-issues), nonfiction, artwork (books), poetry, films (including documentaries), TV series (old and new), websites, comics, magazines, music, conventions, and live acts. The reviews are subject to approval, and WILL BE edited for content, length, and concision.

The works for review MUST contain elements (or a combination) of any of the following genres: horror, science fiction, magical realism, dark fantasy, "weird," alternate history, and so on. 

NO: sword and sorcery, steampunk, fan fiction, gore/torture porn, pornography, animal cruelty, high fantasy, romance, and so on. This is not a complete list. Query if there is a question.

Fourth: Other General Guidelines for Reviewers.

1.      LENGTH: 200 (capsule)-1000 (long) words. Expect to be edited.

2.      FORMAT: Word doc in standard manuscript formatting (see the NAMELESS site for what that is), then go to the SUBMISSIONS area; there's a link to proper MS formatting there).

3.      NEEDS: Must have the following data in the heading.

  • BOOKS/COMICS: ISBN, price, publisher, author, year, page count, format (trade, limited, edition or hardcover, comic, e-book, etc).
  • FOR FILMS/MUSIC: studio, director/stars/musician(s), year, running time, format (DVD, CD, electronic only, etc).
